Another rare Ancerl live. A delightful Beethoven 6, in search of simplicity rather than the timbral ecstasy (in opposite ways) of Karajan and Celibidache, or Scherchen's analysis, or the "cosmic" solemnity of Bernstein, Giulini, Furtwängler, Klemperer... And it really works, perhaps because of the "Bohemian sweetness" of the conductor. It just flows so naturally... Wow.
I don't particularly like Martinu's 5 (maybe you could suggest a very "catching" version), but even here Ancerl is excellent. Really good stereo sound, by the way.

I hear what you say regarding the Martinů: he's a composer I want to like and feel I should like, and I don't actively dislike him, but somehow I can't really bring myself to care.
The Beethoven, though, as you say, is excellent.
BTW this performance of the Martinů was also included in the Ančerl volume of EMI's Great Concductors of the 20th century.
There's a mesmeric performance of the Martinu 5th symphony played by Otakar Trhlik and the Ostrava Janacek Philharmonic Orch.
