De Sabata Edition 12 - Verdi, Berlioz, Puccini, Brahms etc

Finally, 3 CDs from the ultra-OOP "De Sabata Edition" published by Nuova Era in the late 80s.

Only 3 because some are bronzed :-(
But I've already posted all the contents of other volumes (Wagner prel/ov selection, complete Macbeth, Tristan, Falstaff, and of course Dvorak 9, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Schumann PC etc etc) in different sources.
BTW almost all Urania, Archipel, Emi, Idis alternative remasterings are far, far better.

Anyway, here you can find some other delikatessen:
Sibelius 1, rehearsals from Brahms 3, "Vissi d'arte" with Renata Tebaldi & The Sorcerer's apprentice.

So, this concludes our Victor De Sabata survey.
Almost all his recorded legacy is here.

Thanks again for your precious contributions!
(alternatives Tosca, Tristan fragments 1930, En Saga...)

Let's go to new musical travels.. :)

Elgar - The Dream of Gerontius - Barbirolli

I've 3 versions by Barbirolli. EMI is one of the best recordings ever made; there's a live in New York, recently published by  WHRA... also very, very good.
And this nov. 1957 Live in Rome... a third jewel.
With a young, awesome - apart from little mistakes - Jon Vickers.

Pfitzner Violin Concerto - Taschner, Kempe

Tell me if this isn't a good discovery... :-)

All from the same concert (april 17, 1955) in great sound for a live recording of the mid 50s.

The best performance of Pfitzner VC I've ever heard.
Debussy & Mozart pretty good too.

p.s.
In particolare per Woland, che (come me) apprezza molto Taschner fra i violinisti "storici"...

Ravel, Ghedini, Stravinsky, Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Barber - De Sabata

This selection contains previously posted and "new" recordings.
But the remastering is certainly better (above all in Bolero!! what a performance - I can only listen for Celibidache, Pretre and of course De Sabata versions... the others are boring, in comparison).

The most important news: a fantastic Le Chant du Rossignol, an interesting Barber and the rehearsal sequence of Salomes Tanz (so you can finally hear De Sabata's voice).
Sorry, I don't like the Paganini Variations (at all, not in this particular reading).

Wagner - Tristan und Isolde - De Sabata (1951)

Tristan und Isolde

VICTOR DE SABATA

Live - Milan, 13th December 1951

"This famous recording of Tristan und Isolde has long been unavailable having first appeared on LP in 1978 and then on CD in 1989, both times on Italian labels, and both times hastily deleted. This new release on Archipel returns it to the catalogue where it takes its place as one of the most searing performances ever made of this opera. Even given the quite appalling sound – which requires considerable tolerance – it is easy to hear how de Sabata, that most electrifying of conductors, whips his orchestra into a veritable whirlwind of sound; only Böhm, at Orange, and Karajan at Bayreuth equal him".
