Still no Wagner-Giulini, at the moment... :) Anyway, another "almost-avoided" great composer: during his entire activity, Giulini conducted only these two works by Richard Strauss (the Vier Letzte Lieder several times). Here they are gathered. An opportunity to meet again two other beloved artists. Lucia Popp - in the same period of the famous Emi recording with Tennstedt - and the great konzertmeister (or better "Concertgebouw-meister") Hermann Krebbers.

Thank you for your brilliant post! I just explore the concert archive of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and discover that the only time for Giulini to conduct the violin concerto of Richard Strauss at Concertgebouw is around January 17th to 19th 1979. Here is the program of that 3 days:
Gioacchino Rossini: Overture 'Semiramide'
Richard Strauss: Violin Concerto op. 8
pauze
Mossorgsky: Picture in exihibition
BTW, there is no concert of Giulini with Concertgebouw Orchestra between 1979 and 1988.
It will be greatly appreciated if you can spot any chance to find and post the other 2 compositions of the above concert.
Thank you again for your wonderful sharing of live recordings!
These January 1979 performances were also the last ones by the great Herman Krebbers with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Great recordings, so thank you for the upload.
Two remarks: Hermann (German) should be Herman (Dutch), and the Concertgebouworkest was not yet Royal by that time.
Thank you so much . Some valuable Giulini performances never appeared . Among them Brahms alt Rapsodie with Lucia Valentini Terrani or Shostakovich 8th (CSO) or last Dino Ciani concert in Chicago ( Beethoven 3rd)
Thanks for sharing with us these excellent concerts under Giulini featuring the seldom performed opus 8 by Strauss (in wonderful sound) as well as the Four Last Songs with the outstanding Lucia Popp.
Well, no Wagner yet but a very valuable find! Thank you, I hope you'll be able to unearth even more Giulini in the future. Greetings from a great fan of the Maestro and a happy summer to you!
