As you well know, Ostrakh's activity as conductor was very sporadic,
as well as limited to compositions he cared a lot about and knew in depth,
such as Tchaikovsky's latest symphonies or some Shostakovich's.
This No. 10 in Cleveland is certainly one of his best achievements on the podium.
Very good recording, BTW.

WoW! This looks fantastic! Thank you!
It was this concert which led George Szell to telegram his skepticism to the Cleveland Orchestra's manager over Oistrakh's choice of music: "SHOSTAKOVICH TENTH LONG CRAP."
Splendid share, pace Dr. Szell. Thank you, Guido.
I'd heard that Oistrakh agreed to play the Brahms concerto only if he were allowewd to conduct Shostakovich 10 to finish the program

Among other things, Oistrakh recorded twice Harold en Italie. His version with Barshai is in my opinion one of the best.
... Thanks for all your great posts.
I only know the supreme fiddler David Oistrakh & I had my doubts about this performance...but what a corker! Great stuff, thanks for making it available!
