Mahler 4 BSO Walter 1947 (& Lieder)

Since - rightly - there is curiosity for this little known Boston recording, here it is!

In addition, eight early songs played by Walter (details in the folder).
Enjoy and - if you want - let me know your thoughts about this comparison...

I wouldn't want a lack of comments so far to suggest a lack of appreciation for this. The songs were on the fourth side of the original LP set of the Walter/Philharmonic Mahler 5 and more recently in the Sony Bruno Walter Edition, but I hadn't heard this Fourth before. As always with Walter's pre-stereo Mahler, it's at least fascinating, but despite its better balances your prior post of the 1944 Carnegie Hall concert seems to have a bit more spirit and freedom, possibly because Walter felt more comfortable with the Philharmonic. In any event, it's wonderful to have this, and thanks so much!

Most appreciated! I was never able to obtain a copy of this, either a "samizdat" tape nor the Lys CD, and have been very curious. Lys issues are always at least serviceable and useful if not state of the art, so I shall listen attentively and appreciatively. - 8HH

BTW, your cue file works FLAWLESSLY in VLC Media Player and other apps that parse cue files, so no extra work has to be done on the upload you've provided. MANY THANKS for that! - 8H Haggis
