Carnegie Hall, New York
Live - 1 February 1948
In the second half of the 1940s, Charles Munch
conducted the NYPO about thirty times.
This concert, which ends with one of his great specialties,
Berlioz's Fantastique, also includes the orchestra's first performance
of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto no. 2.

Thank you!
Hi Andrew, you're welcome!
Very nice. Thanks very much.
Gary
Münch was also an excellent conductor of Russian music.
Thanks so much for this concert: Münch at his best during live performances .
All welcome!
Guido, ZADEL SKOLOVSKY was my piano teacher 40 years ago. Your post brought me back to his teaching studio. Can’t thank you enough. Is there perhaps additional live recording of this fantastic pianist?
What a hair-raising set of performances! Really life enhancing stuff. From the Chabrier on.
Further Münch seems to be one of the few who tries to follow Berlioz' instructions for the bells in the final movement, adding, I think, a gong so they are less tinkly.
An objection to the speed of the March in IV is that they sound too jolly...
Not Münch's Garde! They are aiming straight for you.
More, please!!!
