Cantelli Centenary 10 - Dvorak, Dukas, Roussel

Among all the soloists who worked with Cantelli,
Rudolf Firkusny was the most assiduous.
After their first meeting in Brussels (Grieg's Piano Concerto, 1949),
they gave several concerts in USA
(Menotti, Beethoven 3, Brahms 1, Grieg again and of course Dvořák) until 1956.

  2. Thanks Guido... very nice choice here. These were pieces that Cantelli did not conduct often. Nice recording and transfer. Much appreciated. Burt

  4. I like the ASdisc CDs, I have a lot of them (Koussevitzky; Cantelli; Rodzinsky; Walter). Many thanks for your AS-posts! Best wishes, Satyr

  5. Thanks Guido, I have to say I prefer Firkusny's more cautious studio version of this concerto with Szell, but those NBC strings were out-of=this-world in the Roussel!

  6. Another fine studio recording of the Dvorák concerto by Firkusny is the following:

    Performer: Rudolf Firkusny (Piano)
    Conductor: Walter Süsskind
    Orchestra/Ensemble: St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
