Thank you very much !
A pleasure to be with you! Thanks a lot...
Grazie mille!Conoscevo Franck, mi mancava - e mi incuriosisce molto - Dvorak.Di recente ho scoperto anche l'Ottava di Beethoven diretta da De Sabata (l'ho trovata su youtube), mi è piaciuta davvero tanto, te la consiglio se non la conosci.
Great news!Can't hardly wait!Thanks a million!
for the Franck, the recording date on my Nuova Era CD is Dec. 3, 1950. Not that I would take it to the bank.
I can also add that timings and sound quality for the Franck of this CD vs Nuova Era are virtually identical.
OK, let's put the helpfulness of my comments at 33%: the date on this CD vs. Nuova Erais a match for the Franck, but my notes confused the day-date.
According to Howard Shanet's "Philharmonic - A History of New York's Orchestra", in 1950 De Sabata only conducted the Orchestra in the following dates: March 15,16,17,18,22,23 & 25. The Franck Symphony was performed in March 31,conducted by Mitropoulos. So, the mystery goes on...
Addendum:De Sabata conducted the Franck Symphony with the NYPO March 9,10 & 12. Please see pages 554 & 556 of the above-quoted work.
The programmes for all de Sabata's concerts with the New York Philharmonic can be viewed at the orchestra's digital archive website at the link below. Unfortunately there seems to be a block on downloading or copying them.http://archives.nyphil.org/
